The idea for this book cover was inspired by the graduation of one of my old friends; After years of painstaking study and research, and hours of dissertation discussion, she finally stood as the crowning star of the ceremony.
At the time, I felt a strong urge to design something that embodied that; And because I was also busy in those days creating a portofolio for book designs, I found in that an additional motivation for what I would design: a book cover that expresses the occasion, such as a memoir book that talks about the solemn graduation day.
But what is the best idea for a cover of this kind? I was determined to be different and not repeat stereotypes; Especially in the face of the problem of relying on one of the graduation photos due to
the medium quality of the photos taken by the phone.In fact, everything I needed was already available in the image of the friend standing tall with her achievement at that party, so I only needed to look and extract the idea. And so was..
The idea was high heels!
Because my friend was always the serious type; In all my memories of her, I never remember her wearing high heels, except when she was being crowned with something. As she did previously when she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree, then after that when she graduated from a master’s degree, and then finally when she graduated with a Ph.D.
So high heels were a symbol of upgrading, and the day of the doctorate was the most important upgrading station in the scientific and social life of this friend.
The red and black color she adopted was inspired by the graduation outfit she wore during the ceremony. It was all a mixture of red and black.
